Software-defined networking (SDN) is revolutionizing communications networking by crossing the functionality of an intrusion detection system and a traditional network switch into a single hardware appliance, improving network visibility, resiliency, cybersecurity, and performance. SDN offers significant advantages to operational technology substations and industrial control system networks. Such networks are largely static in nature but support power systems and other critical infrastructure applications. This presentation includes a case study on how a utility has successfully applied OT SDN in their substation environment and highlights the benefits they have gained.
