Dan Williams is Partner in the Washington, D.C., office of McKinsey & Company. He leads the Enterprise Risk Management Service Line as a leader in the Risk Practice. Dan has both in depth experience in supporting institutions design and implement effective risk management and oversight operating models across lines of defense, including selecting and implementing risk and compliance tools and technology.
Recent experience includes:
Redesigning and implementing changes to core risk and compliance processes across a range of FIs, including the largest global banks, wealth managers, and asset managers.
Partnering with a leading FinTech providing unique compliance capabilities to expand market impact beyond core KYC/AML use cases, into broader data management and data governance domains
Leading the regulatory responses for 6+ large North American and European banking organizations to the US federal regulators (OCC, Fed, FDIC, CFPB)
Convening North American regulators on setting the strategy for the Future of Financial Institution Supervision and fostering innovation economy-wide
Broadening McKinsey’s Risk and Resilience Practice beyond financial services to partner across sectors, co-leading McKinsey’s Risk in SHaPE (Social, Healthcare and Public Entities)
Built McKinsey’s Conduct Risk Service, integrating disciplines across compliance, operational and reputational risk categories to develop integrated solutions across FIs with different customer bases and market profiles (i.e., retail banks, wealth managers, asset managers, capital markets infrastructure players)
Prior to joining McKinsey, Dan was a National Bank Examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC, member of the FFIEC), where he led as an Examiner-in-Charge (EIC) or participated as an exam team member on examinations at over 40 distinct depository institutions. As an EIC, Dan delivered an enforcement action to the Board of a problem bank, mandating significant changes to the bank’s organizational structure that greatly enhanced the control environment and the effectiveness of the risk management function.
