Frequency Coordinator Utilities Technology Council
For many smaller utilities, the cost to secure spectrum in which to deploy a private LTE network may be a barrier too large to overcome. The unlicensed band has long been used by utilities for metering when licensed spectrum was unavailable. The release of a new cost-effective 3GPP standardized LTE base station, however, opens the opportunity for utilities to connect non-critical assets using the latest technology. Incorporating advanced features from 3GPP Release 15, Ubiik’s freeRAN™ is designed to optimize performance in 915 MHz. Joined on stage by Paul Reid from Mimomax, a North American utility will share their experience and results from a 915 MHz pilot project to connect meters and other low criticality assets using the freeRAN™ base station.
